Good morning, 2013! This year has gotten off to a bittersweet start. Bitter because I once again find myself in a "downtime" period, which can sometimes be a little difficult because work isn't as steady as going into the studio everyday and you're not sure when (or if) you are gonna be called in anytime soon! Sweet because... of the EXTENDED VACATION!
Sort of... I do have more time to finish some of the work I had been putting on hold, including (among other things) updating this website, which has been long overdue for a visual (and organizational) overhaul. One of the things I've been meaning to add is a Corporate section for some of the Assistant Editing work I've done with eMotion Studios and Ubisoft. After a year of actually working in the field, I finally have some material to include!
I've also started writing again! After such an awesome experience with "Long Time No See" and "Conference Call", I've been eager to get back into the director's seat again (although editing will always be my first love). I finished a first draft of a short film called "Rochester", a story about a motivational speaker who fakes a British accent and pretends to hail from Rochester, UK to gain acceptance. Ironically, his whole spiel is about "being yourself!" Everything goes his way until he goes on a blind-date with a girl... from Rochester!
It's still a couple drafts away from being finished but it's fun to be creative again!
So being in "downtime" is schizophrenic to say the least. One part of me misses going into the office everyday on a steady routine, while the other part is relieved to finally have the time to do some of stuff I've been meaning to do. I know the roles would be reversed the other way around.
I think the mutual ground in these situations is just to make the most out of it! Right?
